There is no room for little boys in KOBLENZ. This new indierock band from the Dutch cities of Venlo and Utrecht aims high right from the start. They bounce like Dinosaur Jr. in one moment, then sound thoughtful and fluid in the next. Guitar eruptions, wayward arrangements and dark electronics compete for dominance. Hi-fi with a lo-fi attitude. Songs as big as life itself. About existential trouble, departure and return, downfall and victory.
KOBLENZ. Take a right in Venlo, across the border into Germany, en route to sun, snow or cheap vodka. The name of a city, derived from confluentes: merging in Latin. Of two worlds, two bands. The Utrecht-based Woods on Fire made complete with frontman Peter Beeker of Ongenode Gast from Venlo. After the break up of this latter rootsrock band Beeker stayed behind alone but was able to recover quickly. Jungskes euverboord. He joined the Utrecht indie collective Woods on Fire, leaving everything behind except for his unadulterated Venlo dialect. In December 2016, in an absorbing frenzy, the first songs were recorded in Studio Joneski. In Utrecht, home base of the band. The first single is released in June on 7” vinyl. Hijs de vlag, stik de moord, dit is Zuid, weej gaon Noord, veur ós de wereld…. (Raise the flag, go to hell, this is South, we're going North, in front of us the world...) KOBLENZ is on track.
