Walter, I’m sure there’s a reason you brought your dirty undies, man. Apparently, just one Big Lebowski-aficionado sufficed to have a nine-piece band dubbed after soiled undergarment. Dirty Undies, that is.
One autumn evening in 2012, an aptly sized venue in the north of Belgium rimmed with curiosity. People wanted to know what the remaining half of Sun To Sheeva was up to. They had picked up a few members from other bands such as Dr. Blue Beat and Gerasene Pigs, which promised to be an interesting mix.
As it turned out, it was. Dirty Undies showcased an upgrade from plain ska music. They had roughed it up a bit, stretched it out, extended it with some surf twang and a tad of gypsy bohemia. A video was shot for a song called It’ll Do For Now. The carolled complacency lasted about as long as the tune itself. Over the following years, they continued to cram an ever-flowing stream of influences into a shapeless mold – blobby yet recognizable. Some might call their departure from vocally meticulous song-crafting toward raucous fun in music-making a cowardly lunge for nihilism. Others say one must not whine, but dance. Dirty Undies themselves say they’re probably both right. But who are they to know?
Dirty Undies suggest you get up. Dirty Undies suggest you get down. Dirty Undies suggest you move it.
